A career-oriented website I enjoy visiting

Hello everyone, today I want to tell you about a website called Google Drive. 

This is a very well known and at the same time very useful website, which can be used in different ways, like to upload files and edit them online, but the main purpose is to store files and sync them to your computer. 

The way I use it the most is to make summaries of university subjects that are more difficult for me. I chose this website because it is easy to use, you can save and organize in folders everything you write and, of course, you can also share it with other classmates.

I visit this website every time I want to study or also to do group work with other classmates, so I use it almost every day.

I highly recommend it if you are a student or a teacher, as it can help you to make presentations, papers, documents, forms, etc. After that you can also download them as you wish, as a Microsoft Word, a pdf document, a web page, etc.

How can your major make the world a better place?

Hi everyone, in this blog i'll have the honor to talk about my major. As you know, I'm studying dentistry at the University of Chile and this is my second year.

First of all, I believe that being a dentist can affect the world in the way that we, as future professionals, can have a positive impact on other people's health, particularly oral health, which is just as important as overall health.

Now, as a student, I see myself trying to enjoy the process, although sometimes it can be a bit frustrating and exhausting because I’m well aware that this is a difficult career, but a beautiful one as well.

Dentistry is not only important to maintaining a healthy mouth, teeth and gums, but it will also help your appearance and quality of life. Dentists as well can help people to prevent many dental problems that can potentially affect the rest of your body. Therefore, maintaining oral health is not just the patient's job, it is the dentist who has the role to guide them and it’s important to everyone to schedule regular dental check-ups for treatment and cleanings for prevention.

A food I really like

 When it comes to food, I’ve always preferred sweet rather than salty, but pasta is an exception. 

This meal is today synonymous with Italian and Sicilian cuisine, and represents one of the most popular foods in the world.

Pasta has been eaten by many different cultures throughout history and it origins back to the 4th century b.c., when in an Etruscan tomb, a carving of native people making what appears to be pasta was found.

My favorite type of pasta is spaghetti, and it comes from the word Spago, which means “twine,” or “string.”

The traditional recipe of the pasta dough was made from wheat flour and for a very long time it was made by hand (all the coiling and cutting). 

Now you can buy it in every supermarket or grocery store, and it's so much easier to make, since it's almost ready to eat (you just have to boil it).

But if you want to make a fresh homemade pasta, mix wheat flour with eggs, incorporating a little at a time, until everything is combined and then roll out the dough and pass it through the blades of your pasta roller.

I really like pasta because there are several ways to make it and, of course, because it tastes good and it's filling.

When eaten in moderation, pasta can be part of a healthy diet, especially whole-grain pasta because it has fewer calories and carbs but more fiber and nutrients.

My favorite piece of technology

My favorite piece of technology is definitely the smartphone. I believe that having a smartphone is a completely personal and useful tool you can use whenever you want or need. Personally, I use it not only to receive messages and make calls, but also to access all the internet facilities, such as access to online information, or simply to stay connected through social networks to entertain myself, even to take good quality pictures and, of course, to listen to music at any time.
I have to admit I depend on it more than I’d like to, sometimes I lose track of time using it or don't realize I'm using it, which could be a little bit frustrating. But when I really want to stay focused on other things, like studying for an upcoming exam, I can do that without any problem.
I highly recommend it if you are a person related to current technology and if you think that it can make your life much easier, but you must be careful with the long periods of time using it.

Why did I choose my major?

I've never had just one dream job when I was a child, I always wanted to do many things, especially related to becoming a famous person, like an actress or a model. But then I realized that kind of ”world” wasn't for me, and I started being interested in biology when I was approximately 13 years old. By that time, I thought I wanted to study medicine but I wasn't sure, then I also considered becoming a vet but, again, I wasn't sure. I think I’m a very indecisive person.

I don't know exactly what made me decide to study dentistry, it kind of was a last minute decision, but I think I made the best choice I could've done at the moment, and a very challenging one.

According to the university I’m in, I only have to say that I'm satisfied with it, though I don't have much experience as an academic student. I like the people I've met until now and the learning I’ve acquired over this year.

Who am I?

Hi, my name is Fiorella, I was born in Arica, Chile (where I lived my whole life), on February 4th, 2002. I come from a quite big family and I'm the oldest of three siblings. My brother´s name is Giorgio and he's a psychology student, otherwise, my sister's name is Isabella and she's a highschool student, they´re 18 and 15 years old, respectively.

Fortunately, I had a very happy childhood and my parents always make sure to give us everything we need and want.

I also live (or used to live, now that I'm living in Santiago) with my grandmother, who I love very much and consider her as my second mother. 

I carried out both of my primary and secondary studies in a school called “Colegio San Jorge”. I have plenty of good memories of those years, especially because I met both of my best friends there, Ivo and Antonia.

When I graduated of highschool I wanted to be a veterinarian, but I was never 100% sure, so I took a year to reconsider it. Finally, I choose to study dentistry and I´m very happy with the choice I made. 

In my free time I like doing exercise, listening to music and spending time with my family, friends and pets, especially my cats because I'm a cat person. I will put some pictures below.
